Mark Seah has taught private lessons for seven years in Atlanta, New York City and Singapore. He has contributed his expertise to the faculty of Manhattan School of Music (MSM Sunday), and given masterclasses at Riverdale Country School and Riverdale Choral Society. His voice students have been admitted to prestigious conservatories such as Manhattan School of Music, Boston Conservatory, and Ithaca College.
Mark trains students in the tradition of his world-famous teachers Catherine Malfitano and Mignon Dunn, developing them as actor-singers through the use of Bel Canto technique and dramatic intent as a foundation for dynamic performances. He focuses on the interpretation of text, elimination of challenges to vocal production, and character creation.
Mark holds a Master of Music and Bachelor of Music in Classical Voice from the Manhattan School of Music. He also holds a Performance Diploma in Flute from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore). Mark teaches privately from his home in the Atlanta area, working with all levels and ages of singers. He is equally comfortable teaching Musical Theatre and Classical vocal music.
Testimonials
"After Mark took me into his studio a year ago, he has been pushing me to reach my fullest potential. Lessons with Mark were definitely the highlight of each week! He was always positive with his instructions and made lessons fun and engaging. College auditions was almost enjoyable because of how well Mark has prepared me; his training empowered and gave me confidence to deliver in auditions. In addition to vocal technique, he has helped me grow as a musician and as a person over the past year. With Mark's help I had my choice of schools for this upcoming year; I will be attending the Boston Conservatory of Music. I don't know where I would be if it weren't for Mark! "
Christian Ohlenschlager (Baritone), student at The Boston Conservatory of Music
"I know Mark as a vocalist, a chorister and a teacher; he has a gift for reaching people in all the above capacities. I trust Mark to guide and teach the singers in my groups and have learned a lot by observing him work. Many times during rehearsals I have observed Mark gently and clearly help the choral singers with pitch, support, tone, diction issues, instilling good vocal habits in the singers. Mark is very inspiring, going beyond the mere notes and vocal techniques to help singers create a truly expressive performance. I have seen the singers gain a new found confidence and deepen their own interpretations. He can pinpoint multiple solutions while leaving them with practical and inspirational exercises and direction. Mark Seah is a genuinely nice and approachable person; he is definitely an asset to anyone looking to learn how to sing "
John Lettieri, Music Director: Riverdale Choral Society, Bedford Presbyterian Church, and Riverdale Country School Orchestra
"I am not new to singing, but I am new to singing correctly, thanks to Mark Seah. Mark has been amazing. He quickly sized up what I was doing wrong and gave me exercises and techniques to help me make corrections. He figured out things about my personality and adapted his teaching to suit my needs. He used analogies centered on things I do to help me understand what he wanted me to do. He also figured out the kind of voice I had, rather than sticking me in the soprano box like every other teacher I ever had. As a teacher myself, I could attest to Mark being an extraordinary teacher. He is knowledgeable, thorough, flexible, and caring. He works to know his students deeply. He gets results. I recommend him unequivocally."
Kim McLeveighn (Contralto), Teacher at Bronx Community Charter School
