Singaporean Tenor Mark Z. Seah's recent operatic credits include La Doriclea (Mercurio), Carmen (Le Remendado), and scene work such as Don Giovanni (Don Ottavio), Die Zauberflöte (Tamino), Turn of the Screw (Quint), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Puck), Mosè in Egitto (Osride), and Pirates of Penzance (Frederic) with the Manhattan School of Music. As an active recitalist, Mark has performed song cycles such as On this Island Op. 11  (B.Britten), Songs of the Clown Op.29 (E.Korngold), cinq mélodies populaires grecques (M. Ravel), Poème d’un jour Op.21 (G.Fauré) and Six Songs Op.48 (E.Grieg).   

He has worked with directors Jay Lesenger, Patrick Diamond, Dona Vaughan, and Catherine Malfitano, and conductors Kent Tritle, Alan Gilbert, George Manahan, Domenico Boyagian, Jorge Parodi, and John Lettieri.

In New York city, Mark was a soloist in major works such as Schubert’s Mass in G, Mozart’s Regina Coeli, Respighi’s Lauda per la Natività del Signore, Handel’s Messiah and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle. In Singapore, he sang with the Singapore Lyric Opera and Classical Singers’ Association. 

In 2016, he has performed recitals at Steinway Hall (Manhattan), Riverdale-Yonkers Society for Ethical Cuture, Riverdale Choral Society, Manhattan School of Music, and given vocal masterclasses at Riverdale Country School and vocal workshops for the Riverdale Choral Society in Bronx, NY. He was featured on BronxNet TV in a performance/interview about his work with these local organizations.

Serving for three years as Cantor of the United Nations Parish (Church of the Holy Family) in New York City, Mark has sung for Archbishop Timothy Dolan, Archbishop Bernardito Auza (Papal Ambassador to the United Nations), Patriarch Bechara Peter Cardinal Rai (Maronite Patriarch Antioch and all the East),  U.N. Ambassadors from Kenya, France, Nigeria, and countless other foreign dignitaries. He was the resident tenor of the Riverdale Choral Society for four years, and guest soloist at the Bedford Hills Presbyterian Church and First Baptist Church in Flushing.

Mark has performed twice with the New York Philharmonic under the baton of Alan Gilbert at the Park Avenue Armory (Don Giovanni) and Alice Tully Hall (Henry the V with Christopher Plummer). He was featured in the Tzu Chi Foundation’s televised gala concert at the Colden Center (Queens College, New York City), and was later invited back to perform in their productions at the Tilles Center (Long Island University).

Mark began his musical career as a classical flautist. He was awarded the Georgette Chan Scholarship to pursue his performance diploma at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore). Through the Academy, he was given the opportunity to take voice lessons with noted Singaporean Tenor Lim Shieh Yih. His passion for vocal arts eventually led him to pursue undergraduate studies in voice at Manhattan School of Music.      

Mark holds a Master of Music and Bachelor of Music in Classical Voice from the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied on scholarship with world-renowned Metropolitan Opera stars Catherine Malfitano and Mignon Dunn. He has coached with elite musicians such as Helmut Deutsch, Paul Sperry, Kenneth Merrill, Kathryn Labouff, and Chun-Wei Kang. He also holds a Performance Diploma in Flute from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore).
